Thread: Rental Properites for Vacation?

Friends of ours are planning a vacation to Italy, and they've talked about renting a property with friends and using it as their accommodation and as a hub for their day trips.

I think they referred to it as a villa. Would you expect that that is a cost effective way to see the countryside and cities in Italy?
