    Default Las Vegas

It's been over a decade since we've been to Las Vegas, but I would like to go back sometime.

I hear it's become much more family oriented now.

When we were there, the MGM was fairly new and the Luxor had just had its grand opening. Which properties are the favorites now?

I haven't been there in a long time either. When I was there they were building the Eiffel Tower. I stayed at the MGM. It was rediculous that amount of time it took to get from the room to the meeting rooms( I was there for business.)

I'd love to go back also.

Let me guess! You probably had to walk past some slot machines or gaming tables, right?

I've never been to a convention in Las Vegas, but I did notice that if you want to claim a freebie or something like that, you need to pretty much tour the casino to get to where you're going.

You need to tour casinos if you want to get ANYWHERE in Vegas... Some sidewalks along the street seem to pass through the bloody things which makes it impossible to completely avoid wandering into a casino or two unless you like walking on the street instead of the sidewalk.

I was there just a few months ago and it never really struck me as being somewhere I wouldn't take my kids (if I had any), in fact it was way to sterile for my tastes!

If you're looking for a hotel in Vegas I'd recommend the Flamingo. It's really central as it sits right in the middle of the strip and prices are very reasonable since it's one of the oldest hotels.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think as more Las Vegas hotels are demolished, the older ones become more interesting for the nostalgia factor, especially for those of us who remember them from past visits.

Exactly, I've only been there once relatively recently which means there was no real nostalgia factor involved. I was just looking for the best deal, and I think the Flamingo just might be it!

It doesn't have the glamour or exclusivity of the newer resorts, but I still think it can hold its own against the newcomers on the strip.

We've also stayed at a smaller hotel just off the strip, which was a pretty good deal.

I wouldn't want to get too far off the strip or too far away from downtown, if I was going that route.

I agree, it's pointless going to Vegas to stay in a hotel that's far away from the action. The strip is definitely where it's at.

Part of my choice would also be to stay on the beaten path. The last time I was there, I heard that it was best to stay in the well lit areas after dark if you were out walking, or parking in a large lot. It's been years since I've been there.

Do you think the downtown area is still happening as it was a couple decades ago?
