One of the most important things when you start out on a holiday is to ensure that you are fully packed and have reached the airport in time. Traffic jams and car breakdowns can always delay you and you need to exercise the correct judgment to see that you have enough time on your hand to still not allow such disruptions to make you late for your flight. You would arrive early in case these situations do not arise, but it is better to spend a little time waiting at the airport than to miss your flight and expose yourself to the uncertainty of catching the next flights and also problems that could arise when you finally reach your destination and find that your hotel accommodation has been cancelled because of a ‘no show’.
Airlines generally leave a lot of time for checking in (generally 90 minutes). Never make the mistake of timing your arrival at the airport to check in just in time. Take advantage of those ninety minutes and plan to arrive at the airport before the check in starts. This will save you any hassle that can be caused by traffic problems and still leave you with a cushion for any delays. Catching the next flight is an alternative that can cost you more money, especially if you have taken advantage of any cheap tickets while booking, and you may find yourself having to pay extra just to get on to the next flight. And this extra can force you to curtail your holiday because of a tight budget.
